We think that the best way to experience Portland and Maine is on two wheels. Our bike rental program makes it easy to explore the city, coastline, and trails like a local.

Scroll down to see the different rental options we offer. We’ve got ‘around town’ bikes, kids bikes, adventure bikes, a tandem bike, as well as a bunch of helpful accessories.

How it works:

  • Make your reservation using the date picker and product selection below. Our shop is closed on Sundays and Mondays, so those dates cannot be selected as return dates. If you intend to return your bike on a Sunday or Monday, simply choose Tuesday as your return date. You can still return the bike on Sunday or Monday by locking it to the rack outside the Gear Hub, and you'll only be charged for the days you actually have the bike.

  • Pick up your bike at 155 Washington Ave, Portland, ME during our open hours: Tuesday - Friday, 11am - 6pm, and Saturday, 10am - 4pm.

  • When you pick up your bike, we’ll have you sign a waiver, and then fit the bike to you and provide a helmet and lock. Full payment is collected at the beginning of the rental period.

  • Ride around, be safe and have fun.

By renting from us, you’re also supporting a nonprofit community bike shop working to make biking accessible for everyone.

Around Town Bikes

Prices start at a flat rate of $80 for up to four days. After that it’s $5 per day for up to two weeks. The longer you rent, the more affordable it becomes. If you’d like to rent a bike for longer than two weeks, please email us at programs@ketchaoutdoors.org.

Kids Bikes

Are the grandkids visiting for a week or two and would love to ride a bike? Don’t want to buy one because they’ll have outgrown it by the next visit? Or your just visiting and you want your kids to have a blast riding around?

We’ve got you covered, with kids’ bikes available to rent for up to one month.

Prices start at a flat rate of $50 for up to one week. After that, rentals are $15 per additional week, for up to four weeks total. If you’d like to rent a bike for longer than four weeks, please email us at programs@ketchaoutdoors.org.

Every kids bike rental also includes a helmet.

Tandem Bike

Are you bringing your best pedaling pal to Portland? Ready to put your teamwork abilities to the test? Skip the separate bikes and rent a tandem to keep the conversation rolling as you ride. 

Captain (front) rider height 5'6-6'3 (56cm) ; stoker (rear) rider height 5'-5'9 (50cm). 

  • 1 Day = $50

  • 2 Days = $65

  • 3-4 Days = $80

  • each additional day = $5

This rental comes with two helmets (with Bike Benefits stickers!) and a lock and is equipped with a basket and rear rack to tote along your belongings.

Adventure / Touring Bikes

Surly says they designed the Grappler for quick-and-dirty bikepacking trips — weekend excursions, weeknight romps, and spontaneous off-road escapes. We think it makes a great, slowish-but-comfortable touring bike for off (or on) road adventures. 

They are specced with Microshift 1x10 wide range drivetrains, dropper posts, and 27.5 x 2.8" tires (currently set up with tubes). They have tons of mounting points for running racks or dangling bags.

Save yourself the expense of purchasing a touring bike you’ll only use infrequently, or the headache of boxing up your bike and flying or posting it to Maine for your tour and rent one of these.

  • Up to 4 days = $100

  • each additional day = $10
